Tenerife culture

Due to its long and extremely fascinating past, Tenerife has a rich culture, which is reflected in many different walks of local life. There are many people who still practice customs and traditions of the island. It is not only one of the greatest forms of their heritage, but also one of the attractions valued by everyone who visits Tenerife.

One of the most important island’s landmarks is Auditorio de Tenerife, an incredible building situated on the oceanfront like a huge wave rising from the sea. It is both an architectural wonder, but also a spot, where lots of important musical events are organized. Between October and June you can experience a range of concerts in the spot. Moreover, Canarian Music Festival takes place in the Auditorio between January and March.

Another great event connected with Tenerife culture is its carnival. It is the largest carnival in Europe. Celebrations are organized all over Tenerife, but the main event takes place in Santa Cruz. Carnival gathers lots of people, who dream of having marvelous time, dancing, singing, and enjoying their selves in a variety of other ways. Additionally, the presence of Latin American, as well as South American bands makes the celebration even more attractive. There is no doubt that the event is worth experiencing, and is considered as a very safe one.

If you spend holidays in Tenerife, you should also take part in local fiestas. The events are especially adored by the natives who take part in as many fiestas, as it is only possible. The most important ones include for instance Romeria de San Isidro, in mid June in La Oratava, and the Romeria de San Benito in La Laguna two weeks later. The combination of national costumes and breath-taking local vegetation leaves unforgettable impressions.

Those who wish to gain some theoretical knowledge, connected with the spot are strongly recommended to visit Tenerife museums, such as Museum of Man & Nature, History Museum, Military Museum or Museum of Science & the Cosmos. Additionally, you may see Sitio Litre, a private mansion in Puerto de la Cruz with its incredible, old gardens, or Garcia Sanabria Park, famous for flame trees, and other sub tropical plants.
Tenerife is a spot, where you can feel the spirit of the old times, combined with modern atmosphere. Moreover, you can take part in numerous music events, as well as in the best European Carnival. Local culture can be also experienced in other spheres of local life, so if you want to learn more about them you need to spend at least short holidays in Tenerife.
